Natural Homesteading

Apiary (Beekeeping)

Jamin and Tom are inspecting frames for the progress of comb building and the condition of the brood.  Tom has his pantlegs taped up with blue tape so no unwanted, sweet, honeybee finds her way up inside his drawers!!

Update!

The bees are back!! This spring wild bees colonized our west hive. We didn't have to catch or buy them they just showed up! We wil not be harvesting any honey from them this first season. Instead we are going to try to keep them alive through the winter and see where things stand next spring.

The first thing I plan to do is put the entry reducer on to keep the mice out of the hive. They could probably use a wind break as well... I'll have to think about how to do that.
