While camping a few weeks back I decided to make brownies. Not the easiest thing to do because we were missing a huge component usually found in brownie baking... an OVEN. Living by the cooking philosophy of... hey why not try it... I set out to make these brownies happen. I thought why not use an open flame and stir the brownie batter in my iron skillet. That first night we used a turkey fryer's base, the next night a campfire was the heat source. Since we've been home we have been using our stove top.
I hate to admit this but I have only tried this with a box brownie mix. I will later post an updated recipe where I used my homemade brownie recipe. I just don't want to recommend something unless I've tried it out first.
Okay now for the recipe
1 box brownie mix
1 egg (even if it asks for 2 use only one)
Recommended amount of oil and water (You may need to add a little more of each if you've cut an egg)
Mix all ingredients in bowl.
Pour into a greased hot iron skillet.
Cook over high heat until it seems done, stirring constantly. (Really scrape the bottom of the pan and make sure that the batter is getting stirred around.)
About 8/10 mins I think.
I've always just done it until they looked good. They will start to stick together and form a plyable paste. We have a small precision flame on our stove top and that's what I use.
Please let us know how much you enjoyed these. Include a picture and brag to all your friends.
Peace and blessins in HIM,
Celia
*Caution! Please understand that the amount of brownies in your skillet is equivalant to a 9 x 13 pan of brownies. Be aware because they are amazing and you could eat the entire batch in one sitting if you are not careful! - Jamin
