Tips of the Trade!

Sharp Razors!

Girls: To keep your blades sharp for much much longer, never store them in the shower.

Guys: Dry your razors after each use.

This should save you money in the long run!

Chemical Free Carpet Stain Removal

Ugly stains in your living room rug don't have to be permanent or expensive to remove! All you have to do to is pour some boiling water on the spot and thoroughly dry with a white towel. But don't over moisten. Treatment can be repeated as many times as you like.

A MUST

Musty smells are usually due to mold in the air, seen or not. Mold needs heat and moisture to grow and it can wreak havoc on your health.  It can be killed with a bicarbonate of soda.  Wash everything down with a soda solution then get rid of the excess moisture.  Leaks in roofs or cracks in the walls can sometimes create this condition between walls.  Soda will kill the mold.  Bleach will subdue it but not kill it.

Honey, Honey, Honey!!

Unpasteurized honey is an excellent choice for food storage as it will store indefinitely!  It is loaded with enzymes, amino acids, and minerals.  Did you know that honey is healing?  Put unpasteurized honey on a wound, it will keep infection at bay and help heal.

Winter Squash

When choosing a winter squash look for vivid colors, and a dried out stem, still attached.  The squash should also be very hard.  Press on it all over to make sure there are no soft spots.  Yummy in soups and sauteed!!!!

Garlic

Garlic is one of our best general antiseptics and it is an antifungal to boot!

Veggies too salty?

If you happen to get vegetables too salty, just add a teaspoon of sugar to remedy the situation!  :)

Rodent Repellent

O.K., this is so clever!  If you have an animal living in, under, or around your barn or shed go to your local beauty salon and ask them to gather hair off their floor and save it in a bag (they throw it away anyway!). Take your bag of hair (trust me, it really looks kind of weird all together like that) and stuff that hair right in the hole the varmint has dug.  It will probably scare you the first couple times when you go to your barn but that hair will stay undisturbed because animals avoid it!  Try it!  It's amazing!!

Moth Control

You know the moths that haunt our kitchen cabinets?  Here's a tip for moth control:  Clean out your cabinets thoroughly and spread a few freshly dried bay leaves in your cupboards where the culprits were abiding.

To keep your cat out of your flower bed:  Stick moth balls (original, not perfumed) in the soil every 6 inches or so and especially a lot in the area where the cat is digging.  He/she won't like the smell and will head else where!  Now that's the cat's meow!!!
