Great Good Evening!

O.K., so Ive got a great story.  I love great stories!  The neighbors on both sides of us have chickens, lately they both have offered to give us a rooster.  I've declined both times.  I've had a rooster before, all he was good for was to spur me every time I tried to collect eggs.  I col'cocked him so many times up side the head only to have him sit for a minute, look cross eyed, gather up his muster and come back at me!!!  He was a good for nothin!  Anyways, I've learned my lesson with roosters.  The other day the guys were working on our $2.00 garage, I went out to check on the progress and our neighbor, Darrell, was talking with Tom.  With a bright smile on his face he said, "Tom said you guys would take my rooster."  I said, "Oh no!  No rooster for me!"  So he proceeded to tell me all about how he bought hens but ended up with not 1 but 2 roosters and they were old enough now to kind of square off with one another.  He said,"Oh, you would like this guy, I hold him and pet him."  I, (being the softy that I am) said, "Really?  You can hold him?"  He said, "Yes."  So I agreed to take this rooster in but if he even looks like he's thinking about spurring me he's heading straight into the stewing pot.  So just 2 days ago Darrell brought the rooster over.  He set him down on the ground and immediately our hens were all around him, one hen walked right up to him and yelled at him which sent this strong hearted guy right into a tizzy, he fussed, squawked, fumed, flitted, and went in circles.  Tom thought he was going to faint dead away, he finally caught him and put him into the north side of the coop where he could get used to his surroundings.  He and Jamin found a real gnarly hen who is in full molt to stick in with him for company.  Even she scared him so much, Jamin said, "Yeah, he probably took one look at her and said, 'Why did you put that ole bag in here with me?'" So that evening when I went out to the coop to meet him I found the little guy head first in a laying box.  All I could see was his beautiful tail, which by the way, reminds me of skunk coloring.  :)  I pet him and cooed at him and told him it was going to be all right.  Two mornings later Tom heard him kind of give a little cock-a-doodle-doo, albeit half hearted, but still an effort.

We were trying to come up with a name for the new guy.  We have so many hens we don't name them but since he's the only boy we decided to name him.  Jamin said we should name him Foghorn.  I said we should name him Chuck Norris. I said to Shalom, "Do you like the name Chuck Norris for the rooster?"  She said, "No."  I said what name do you like?  She said, "Ummm, Poncho!"  So guess what his name is?  Shalom won out.  Our rooster's name is Poncho.  Doesn't he look like a Poncho?

I want to share a very exciting new thing we are going to offer.  A few of my family members would like to share some of the things they are doing around our homestead.  From time to time they will write stories, discoveries, inventions, etc....on their own blog.  My blogs are dated at the top and their blogs will be titled.  I'll bet they won't be as funny as me but they will be SO interesting (just sayin)  ;).

I sure hope your week is going smoothly.  Peace from our family to yours.

And......

Blessings on finding your rich homespun heritage!
